all phones do not have in-built radio antenna or signal receiver.the headphones have 2 jobs .1)to act as an antenna for the radio.and 2)to act as a headphone. So even in loudspeaker u have to have the headphone attached to the phone.it stops the radio because it cannot receive any stations for itself's in built radio.

The wires of the headphone or earphone act as the antenna for the FM radio. Without the headphone or earphone plugged in, the FM radio has no signal reception so there is no point in having it turned on so it shuts off automatically. The small box on the wires contains a microphone and has nothing at all to do with the FM radio.

the ear phone wire has a small box on it if u notice....it contains frequency receiver u may relate it to traditional antennas in radio sets
thats the reason u need to attach it

if it were inside the mobile handset it would provide as much clarity in reception of the voice signals
