Helping in third world countries? How would I get involved?

I would love to get involved in helping third world countries, and think it would be awesome to take a year or two off before I go to college to do so. I am not sure if there are any programs I can get into, or what the requirements are.. I am only seventeen but will be graduating from highschool this year. Any information regarding this topic will be of great help. Thanks for your time.

A great program that helps carribbean nations is called Food For The Poor. They also build houses in Haiti, as well as other places. They strive to create new lives for families and communities. It’s a great start! Good for you!
BTW, this organization uses 97% of the money it recieves to go directly to these communities.

Try the army reserve ask for Iraq or Afghanistan

    (1) Get to help bring stability and democracy to an entire region
    (2) you get paid for your volunteer work
    (3) Pick up some life and job skills
    (4) Adds to your college funding

No offense intended just reality of whats truely important. You could go somewhere and did a ditch to help bring a village water and pay for all the plane tickets and what have you out of your pocket. Actually you could just send the cost of your ticket and let the village hire someone to dig.

To do something truly great does not require you work for free.
